Get the Best Avocado for You

Welcome to our guide on avocado ripening and sizing! Our avocados, grown in the rich soils of Peru, are carefully nurtured to ensure the highest quality and taste. Whether you’re looking for the perfect avocado for your salad or a creamy addition to your smoothie, understanding how to choose and ripen avocados is essential.

Sizing

Variety to Suit Your Needs

Avocados from Peru offer a delightful array of sizes to accommodate any culinary endeavor. Professionals typically measure their size by how many fit into a 25-pound carton. Curious about the details? Check out our official sizing chart below.

Ripening

Key for The Perfect Flavor

If there’s one thing important in buying avocados, other than making sure they’re from Peru, it’s that they’re perfectly ripe when you want to eat them. Here’s a quick guide: a ripe avocado should give slightly when pressed gently with your palm. If unsure, flick the stem—if it comes off easily, it’s ready. Then the last step is just slice, scoop, and enjoy!

Firm

not yet ripe

Firm avocados are perfect for purchasing a few days (approx. 4 to 5 days) before you plan on serving them to ensure that they will be perfectly ripe and ready to eat.

Breaking

almost ripe

Breaking avocados will have a softer feel but will not quite yield to firm gentle pressure. These avocados should take another day or two to ripen.

Ripe

ready to enjoy!

Ripe, ready-to-eat avocados may have a darker color, but color can vary, so it is best to check by applying gentle pressure as well. Ripe avocados will yield to firm, gentle pressure.
